Unexplored and near-forgotten, the Gulf of Baia was once considered a glamorous “Riviera” of the Roman rich and famous. Today its archaeological value is deemed of great importance in the eyes of experts. The exploration will start from the guided visit of the Archaeological Museums of Phlegrean Fields which is set at the Aragon Castle of Baia. This museum hosts the main archaeological relics of the area, together with a wonderful reconstruction of the underwater Roman nymphaeum found in the bay of Baia.
Volcanic activity in this region submerged the beautiful Roman buildings that were long ago located along the shore. By private transfer, you will reach the port to take to the water to revisit what once was a beautiful resort for the ancient Roman elite and now is the greatest underwater archaeological park of the Mediterranean.
Before your dive, your guide, a marine archaeologist, will give you a video briefing in the lab that will be useful in providing an overview of the entire settlement, so you can focus on admiring the ruins while in the water. Dive into the majesty of this ancient civilization and swim around the statues and mosaics at a depth between 3-8 meters. The “debris” here has preserved for explorers and most of the structures, including mosaics and statues, are still in good condition.

Fascinating experience – Archaeology and Marine life to see.
What a fabulous time we had on the Foraday tour, snorkelling in Italy. The guide (Alessandro) was very informative and generally helpful, making the day very enjoyable. Nothing was rushed about the trip, we definitely got our money’s worth. We saw some interesting things, both historical items and marine life. This would suit all ages, my teenage son enjoyed the day immensely.
